Prerna Jain’s journey into the pump industry actually began during her Ph.D. research. Jain, 38, explains, “My specialization in asset performance management and predictive analytics within the pumps industry stems from my Ph.D. research work that advanced into solving problems for my customers. Developing predictive models for equipment failure and optimizing operational algorithms has allowed me to contribute significantly to enhancing business value and operational efficiency.” Jain received her Ph.D. from Texas A&M University and has since published 16 manuscripts in high impact journals. She is also a recipient of eight leadership and three research awards. In her current role at Honeywell, she leads the Asset Performance Management product offering and led the development of the Turbomachinery Advisor module.
Jain enjoys being a leader in the industry and being able to see the fruits of her labor. “The most rewarding aspect is the tangible impact of my work on business objectives of my organization as well as my customers. Leading cross-functional teams to design and implement advanced software solutions that improve efficiency and reduce energy consumption is incredibly fulfilling.” For the more challenging aspects, Jain explains incorporating new technologies into existing operations can be resource intensive and require robust change in the management process.
As for advice Jain would offer, she mentions three things in particular: hands-on experience, flexibility and continuous learning. Being able to work on real problems, learn to adjust to a changing situation and connect with those around are invaluable tools to have as a young professional. Jain mentions some of her own mentors, saying, “One mentor was instrumental in guiding me through the early stages of my career, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and attention to detail. His advice on ‘make your weakness your greatest strength’ has helped me a lot.”
How do you typically spend your time outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, and cooking with my toddler (check out our YouTube channel, “ishirGoel Cooking”), exploring different cuisines and spending time with family.
What's one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
People might be surprised to learn that I am a Dancer. I practice ‘Odissi’, one of the eight Indian Classical dance forms. I choreographed my PhD research topic. Dancing allows me to express my creativity in a different way and provides a great balance to my technical work.
