Participants from more than 140 countries test their knowledge of pumps, support worldwide education for heart health.

SENECA FALLS, N.Y. (Jan. 24, 2012) - Where is the world's biggest brewery, and how much beer do pumps move through it each year? What is the largest cost component of owning a pump? More than 5,000 people representing 141 countries have answered questions like these, as ITT Goulds Pumps challenges players with its World of Pumps Quiz, an online series of questions aimed at raising awareness of the role industrial pumps play in modern life while generating company donations to teach first aid and CPR around the world. Additional questions will be posted biweekly until April 1.

Spotlighting pumps as the "heart of industry," ITT Goulds Pumps has structured the promotion to benefit the global Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) Program, sponsored by the American Heart Association and its global partners. The World of Pumps Quiz, which began November 15, runs for 20 weeks and culminates with Pump Appreciation Day -- an international celebration of pumps on April 10, 2012 -- when the company will donate money for every correct answer to the ECC Program, an international education effort that teaches first aid, including the recommended method for hands-only CPR.

"As we move past the halfway point of the quiz, people from scores of countries are logging on again and again to test their pump knowledge," said Robert J. Pagano Jr., president of ITT Industrial Process, manufacturer of Goulds Pumps. "The broad participation indicates the importance of industrial pumps around the world, and helps to demonstrate why we call pumps the 'heart of industry.'"

Question six of the ten-question quiz launched Monday, January 23. Future questions will include topics related to energy efficiency, causes of pump failure and power calculations.

To enter the quiz, participants go to worldofpumpsquiz.com. Contestants can answer as many or as few questions as they like, and sign up to receive automatic notifications when the next question is posted.
