PITTSBURGH (Feb. 29, 2012) — Chromalox®, a manufacturer of electric heat and control products, has been awarded the ASME Section III “N” certification for pressure-related components for designed equipment entering service in nuclear-designated areas and the “NPT” certification for component parts in nuclear-designated areas, such as pressurized heaters.
This highly-valued certification demonstrates Chromalox’s knowledge of the nuclear industry and attention to stringent quality standards. Products that meet the “N” and “NPT” certification requirements meet design, material control and testing levels that go beyond typical third-party certifications. Products such as Chromalox flanged and circulation heaters will carry the “N” stamp, while a variety of components that are integrated with other equipment will carry the “NPT” stamps.
“Chromalox is pleased to achieve these accreditations that build on our proud tradition of serving the nuclear industry,” said Mark Wheeler, Global Product Director – Packaged Systems and Service. “Chromalox has been engaged with the nuclear market since its beginnings. Heaters supplied under the E. L. Wiegand name were included in some of the first U.S. nuclear reactors and units have also been supplied to many U.S. Navy nuclear-powered ships and submarines.”
The ASME Code establishes rules that govern the design, fabrication and inspection of boilers and pressure vessels, and nuclear power plant components during construction. Use of the ASME certification mark is an indication of compliance with the laws and regulations of all 50 states in the United States, and all the provinces of Canada. It is also accepted in over 100 countries as a means of meeting their government safety regulations.
The “N” and “NPT” certification ensures that Chromalox heating equipment meets a rigorous schedule of requirements assigned by AMSE that encompass the company’s design, manufacturing and testing protocols. These include:
- Organization
- Quality assurance
- Design control
- Procurement document control
