DALLAS (March 21, 2013) – Flowserve Corporation announced the installation of Flowserve pumps has begun at the Mittelsbüren combined cycle plant (CCP) located near Bremen, Germany. All of the major pumps in the 440 MW gas turbine power plant are Flowserve pumps, including high-pressure, ring section boiler feedwater pumps; vertical, double-case, multistage, condensate extraction pumps; and vertical, mixed flow, circulating water pumps.

Madrid-based Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios S.A. is responsible for the balance-of-plant, civil works and overall construction. When complete, the high-efficiency CCP will serve four German power utilities.

"We are proud Cobra has entrusted Flowserve to supply all major pump services for their newest combined cycle plant in Bremen," said Jim Quain, president, Flowserve Engineered Pump Operations. "Our overall combination of power industry experience, high-efficiency pumping equipment, and on-the-ground technical support offers excellent value for the long-term operation of the plant."

With the continuing addition of wind turbine capacity to the country's electricity grid, Germany has become a world leader in wind power production. Since wind is an intermittent energy source, it is necessary to have standby power generation to ensure a reliable and continuous electricity supply for the residents and businesses in this northern region of Germany. Extremely flexible and responsive, the gas turbine combined-cycle technology used in the Bremen facility is well suited for this role.
