PARSIPPANY, N.J. (April 8, 2013) – The Hydraulic Institute (HI) recognized and honored David McKinstry, SVP - Engineering & Special Projects, Colfax Fluid Handling as its Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. The award was recently presented to Mr. McKinstry during HI’s 2013 Annual meeting in Fort Myers, Fla.
McKinstry is one of HI’s most faithful and well-respected members. He has spent more than 25 years working with the Institute, striving to develop standards, to establish effective processes, and to educate the pump community not only in North America, but globally as well.
In June 2007, Mr. McKinstry was named VP of Technical Affairs. During his time as VP he was the driving force behind the creation of all ANSI/HI pump standards. With the announcement of the DOE’s intentions to regulate the US pump industry, he was called upon to be HI’s technical advisor. The board recognized his experience and breath of understanding would be a valuable resource in developing strategies and policy direction.
He also played a significant role in the development and creation of HI’s first Positive Displacement e-Learning course available on the Pump Systems Matter website. He has helped to leverage the international profile of HI, chairing ISO TC115/SC 3, since 2000, and by serving in a leadership capacity in the US Technical Advisory Group as well. He regularly attends Europump Annual Meetings and frequently attends meetings of several working groups within TC115 on behalf of HI.
According to Gregg Romanyshyn, Technical Director, Hydraulic Institute, “Dave McKinstry has an international reputation as a statesman for the pump industry and has demonstrated insightful wisdom as well as a unique combination of technical understanding and diplomatic acumen. He has consistently stepped forward to volunteer countless hours of his time to help shape and move the Institute forward. He has helped guide the technical teams with their tasks, and has always been available to consult with the HI leadership and attend meetings and conference calls as needed.”
The mission of the Hydraulic Institute is to be a value-adding resource to member companies, engineering consulting firms, and pump users worldwide by developing and delivering comprehensive industry standards, expanding knowledge by providing education and tools for the effective application, testing, installation, operation, maintenance, and performance optimization of pumps and pumping systems, and by serving as a forum for the exchange of industry information.
