WINTERTHUR, Switzerland (May 7, 2013) – At the end of April, Sulzer Metco celebrated the opening of its new 12,000 m² plant in Anting, the automotive hub in the north of Shanghai. This new facility supports Sulzer Metco to serve its continuously growing customer base in China more efficiently.
Strong market growth, particularly in the transportation and power generation sectors, had caused Sulzer Metco Shanghai to outgrow its first and second building within a few years, requiring a new site for further expansion. Having started with a sales office in Shanghai in 2004 with 5 people, Sulzer Metco Shanghai now has more than 225 coworkers dedicated to serving their Chinese and international customers in the automotive, aerospace and power generation market.

“This new facility will allow us to continue our strong growth path in China,” says Dr. Martin Tempus, General Manager of Sulzer Metco’s China Operation. “Our location in the economic heart of China, close to many of our customers, was crucial to our past success and will continue to be key for our growth in this country.” César Montenegro, President Sulzer Metco adds, “The relocation of the Shanghai facility is another strategic step towards strengthening Sulzer’s position in the important Chinese market.”

Under one roof, Sulzer Metco Shanghai serves the Chinese market with many of Sulzer Metco’s surface solution products and services such as friction solutions for drivetrain components, surface treatment and coating services, sales of coating materials and equipment and customer support services.
