CERRITOS, Calif. (Aug. 6, 2013) – Calnetix Technologies received a new patent on its Powerflux™ side-by-side combination electromagnetic actuator invented by Principal Research Engineer Alexei Filatov. This is the sixth U.S. Patent issued to Filatov since he joined Calnetix in September of 2002.

The Powerflux side-by-side electromagnetic actuator combines radial and axial force generation functions in one device in a unique and highly efficient manner that significantly benefits the company’s industry-leading magnetic bearing technology, and is already being utilized in several projects.

“This design has many advantages over arrangements of separate axial and radial actuators, including improved rotordynamic response, shorter rotor length, lower aerodynamic drag, lower negative stiffness, easier assembly and a reduced part count that can lower production costs,” said Filatov. “Furthermore, the new design significantly improves the axial bandwidth and rotordynamic characteristics compared to earlier designs of the combination bearing, which makes it a perfect choice for compressor and expander applications.”

Calnetix Technologies, LLC, is focused on Innovation That Drives Industries™. The company specializes in high-performance, high-speed motor generators and advanced magnetic bearing and control systems.
