SCHAFFHAUSEN, Switzerland (Dec. 18, 2014) – Xylem Inc. has been recognized with a Swedish business magazine’s Swedish Innovation Prize for its Flygt SmartRun intelligent pump controller. Working in tandem with Xylem’s Flygt Experior wastewater pumping solution, SmartRun can reduce a wastewater pump station’s energy usage by up to 50 percent. SmartRun was one of three finalists alongside products from Houdini and Yubico selected from 120 nominees for the Veckans Affärer magazine’s awards. SmartRun was awarded the silver prize for its potential to make wastewater pumping more cost-effective and to reduce the global footprint of water handling. SmartRun finds the most energy-efficient pump speed for a specific application and features an automatic blockage removal function. All functions of SmartRun are pre-programmed to eliminate costly engineering work for each pump station startup. “At Xylem, we pride ourselves on developing innovative and smart solutions that solve everyday water challenges for our customers,” said Tomas Brannemo, vice president Transport at Xylem. “We are honored that SmartRun’s unique benefits have been acknowledged with this prestigious award.” This is the eighth year that the Swedish Innovation Prize has been awarded. Previous winners include Spotify, Tobii Technologies and ABB. Xylem is a global water technology provider, enabling customers to transport, treat, test and efficiently use water in public utility, residential and commercial building services, industrial and agricultural settings.
