CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Jan.) 13, 2015 – Fuqing is located in the north-central part of Fujian’s sea coast, south of Fuzhou and north of Putian. Its nuclear power plant will be one of the first to deploy the Generation III Hualong One reactor design. This latest reactor type merges ACP1000 and ACPR1000 designs to form one standardized reactor which is set to be widely deployed throughout China as well as targeted at export markets, including the Bradwell Power Station in the United Kingdom. Hualong One is a pressurized water reactor with a net power output of 1,000 MWe and a 60-year design life. The vast majority of its components on FuQing 5&6 project are made in China, and SPX is the only non-domestic pump supplier. It will supply the full MHSI pump packages on this project. The pump packages use multi-stage, centrifugal, radially split Nuclear Class II pumps, designed according with HAF 604 certification and to RCC-M nuclear code. The pump design includes adapted suction with an inducer to allow low net positive suction head (NPSH) on large flow ranges. SPX is a global manufacturer of systems and components for the power-generating industries with particular focus on the importance of nuclear energy in meeting ever increasing demand. Its expertise has been recognized in the Chinese market with its manufacturing facilities in Glasgow and Annecy designated as an “A” Grade supplier by China Nuclear Power Engineering Co. (CNPEC). “It is exciting to be part of this project for one of the first deployments of the Hualong One Generation III reactor,” said Colin Elcoate, VP of business development – Power at SPX. “We have a good working relationship with CNPE, and this latest contract, which will be manufactured in our Annecy facility, is another reflection on the expert engineering capability SPX consistently delivers for nuclear class pumps.” SPX Corporation is a global, multi-industry manufacturer.
