BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Woolpert has hired Ryan Thomas as a program director for the firm’s energy market. Thomas is a chemical engineer who brings 20 years of experience working in leadership positions for power companies and energy consulting firms across the South and Southeast.

Thomas most recently served as a sustainability and innovation manager for an Atlanta-based firm, where he provided project management and business development oversight, with a focus on the renewable energy sector. A former partner in one of the world’s largest environmental, health and safety firms, Thomas has managed the conceptual design and construction of power generation and delivery, utility-scale solar plants, battery storage sites, military support buildings, and green- and brownfield sites.

At Woolpert, Thomas said he’s looking forward to providing innovative solutions to address unique client needs.

“I am excited to hone my skills by working with such an extraordinary team at Woolpert,” Thomas said. “I am confident that adding my knowledge to the Woolpert collective will help move the company forward as an industry leader in the energy market.”

Woolpert Senior Vice President and Energy Market Director Mike Battles said Thomas’ background in managing people, projects and multimillion-dollar budgets will benefit the firm and its clients.

“Throughout his career, Ryan has advanced technologies throughout the energy industry, developing innovative solutions for some of the largest companies in the U.S.,” Battles said. “His extensive experience in power generation and delivery, design and construction will embolden our work with our clients, while his outstanding contributions to the field of renewable energy will support our expansion in that market. We’re very happy to welcome Ryan to Woolpert.”
